Madelyne Frances (Donovan) Holoweiko’s obituary
Madelyne Frances (Donovan) Holoweiko—our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother—was joyously welcomed into heaven by God and all the angels and saints on February 18, 2015.
Born on January 10, 1925, in Bernard, Iowa, Madelyne was the second of seven children of Martin A. Donovan, Sr., and Frances Ellen Weaver Donovan. When she was young, the family moved to Lansing, Mich., where she attended Resurrection schools, then worked as a guide at Nash-Kelvinator Corp. after graduation.
She met the love of her life, on a hayride and later married him on January 11, 1947. Together, they raised six children, paid cash for their homes in Colonial Village and Groesbeck, enjoyed family vacations at Gun Lake, and roller skating, card-playing, bowling, and square dancing with friends. Mike’s fishing, hunting, and gathering brought home bluegills, bass, smelt, pheasants, deer, fruits and vegetables; Madelyne’s cooking, baking and preserving ensured that everyone was always well-fed.
She loved her children and grandchildren immensely. She was a devout Catholic who served in the Altar Society at St. Casimir Parish for years. She liked to speak her mind and play the slots. Year after year until recently, her encyclopedic memory enabled her to send a timely card or letter recognizing every important event in the lives of numerous family members and friends.
She was predeceased by her son Gregg, sisters Rosellen and Patricia, and brothers Martin, Lawrence, and Robert.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no memorial service.
