Jeremiah Donovan

JEREMIAH DONOVAN is the son of Richard and Honora O’Brien Flanigan Donovan. He was born in 1851 in Garryowen, Jackson County, Iowa.

He married Margaret Phillips (1850–1902).

  • They had no children.

They are buried in the cemetery at St. Patrick Church, Garryowen, Iowa.

Jeremiah Donovan

Lamotte News: Jerry Donovan passed out of this life at Mercy Hospital, Dubuque, Monday morning, April 30, 1923, after a two weeks’ illness, the result of a fall sustained a short time before. Mr. Donovan made his home at the Iowa Hotel, where he assisted in the work, and in carrying a keg of pickles to the cellar, he slipped and fell inuring [sic] his hip and back, which resulted in his death.

Jerry Donovan as he was known by all had many friends who regret to learn of his death. He was 72 years old and spent the greater part of his life in Butler township, Jackson Co., where he was a prosperous farmer.

He was married to Miss Margaret Phillips, of East Garryowen, who proceeded [sic] him in death about 18 months ago, after which Mr. Donovan sold his farm and has since resided in Dubuque.

He is survived by one brother, Richard, of Bernard, and several nieces and nephews. His brother Maurice preceded him in death a year ago last Friday.

Mr. Donovan’s funeral was held Wednesday morning from the Hoffman chapel in Dubuque to St. Patrick’s church in North Garryowen, where Rev. P. J. Coffey offered the Requiem Mass and officiated at the grave. Interment was made in North Garryowen cemetery.
